Cooperation in Higher Ed
Founded in the late 1980’s as part of a national effort by the U.S. Department of Education to establish statewide and regional consortia to address campus problems with alcohol and other drug abuse, the New Jersey Higher Education Consortium (NJHEC) for Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention and Education is one of the oldest consortia in the U.S. NJHEC has a long and successful history of supporting prevention programs in New Jersey’s colleges and universities. NJHEC is an active coalition in support of efforts to prevent underage and dangerous drinking and reduce the negative consequences due to alcohol use among New Jersey’s college students.
Our Mission
The mission of the New Jersey Higher Education Consortium is:
- to successfully pursue proactive prevention strategies to prevent campus alcohol and other drug abuse
- to develop strong institutional policies on drug use and alcohol abuse
- to measure the extent of drug use and alcohol abuse and their associated problems
- to create activities to bring about desired behavior changes in students, staff, and faculty

The 2010 National Meeting Web site and registration is now open. The National Meeting on Alcohol, Drug Abuse, and Violence Prevention in Higher Education will be held October 18-20, 2010 in Maryland (near Washington, DC).
