About Us
The New Jersey Higher Education Consortium has grown from an original group of 16 colleges into a network involving more than 40 colleges and universities along with key local and state agencies. Forty-five N.J. colleges and universities have received grant funding through NJHEC. Prevention approaches that were funded include curriculum infusion, systematic surveys of student alcohol/other drug use, five statewide student peer-education conferences and the development of the Peer Institute, social norm projects to decrease student alcohol and tobacco use, a state-wide party drug abuse prevention project, the promotion of health and wellness residence halls, the implementation of underage drinking prevention initiatives including annual statewide conferences, and the development of services and support for students in drug recovery. Currently, the Consortium is funded through a grant from the U. S. Department of Education, entitled “The New Jersey Higher Education Consortium Project to Prevent and Reduce Alcohol Abuse”. This grant supports the development of effective and sustainable Environmental Management approaches to substance abuse prevention at five Institutions of Higher Education throughout the state of New Jersey.
